ONOV
Privacy Policy
Effective date: 31 August 2026
Version: 1.0
Applies to: the ONOV mobile application, published under the name ONOV on the Apple App Store and Google Play, and the ONOV website at www.onov.com
ONOV is a social network built around four interests: Political, Entertainment, Hobbies / Sports and Business. Because of what ONOV is for, some of the information you share with us — particularly your political interests — is more sensitive than what an ordinary app collects. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, who can see it, and what control you have.
Two things are worth knowing before you read further. First, the four interest profiles — Political, Entertainment, Hobbies / Sports and Business — are entirely optional: you can skip every one of them and still use ONOV. A short set of basic details is required to create an account, and Section 3.1 says exactly which. Second, you can delete your account and your data from inside the app at any time, and you do not need to contact us to do it.
1.Who we are
ONOV is operated by ONOV LLC, a limited liability company formed in the State of New York (Department of State ID 4221474). In this policy, "ONOV", "we", "us" and "our" mean ONOV LLC. "You" means the person using the ONOV app or website.
| Company | ONOV LLC, a New York limited liability company |
|---|---|
| Postal address | 175 Fulton Avenue, Suite 211B, Hempstead, New York 11550, United States |
| Privacy and support contact | net-support@onov.com |
| Website | https://www.onov.com/ |
We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. That means we decide what is collected and why, and we are responsible for it.
2.What this policy covers
This policy covers the ONOV mobile application — listed as ONOV on both the Apple App Store and Google Play, and published by ONOV LLC — the ONOV website at www.onov.com, and any support you receive from us. It applies to everyone who uses ONOV, wherever you are.
Where ONOV is available. The ONOV app is currently published only in the United States, on the US App Store and the US Google Play store. The website at www.onov.com is reachable worldwide, so people outside the United States may read it and contact us even though they cannot download the app. This policy covers both.
It does not cover other companies' services that you may reach from ONOV. If you sign in with Google, Google's own privacy policy governs what Google does with your information. If someone posts a link to another website and you follow it, that website's policy applies once you leave ONOV.
3.Information we collect
Everything below comes from you using ONOV. We have grouped it by what it is and where it comes from, so you can see exactly which feature produces which data.
3.1 Account and identity information
| What | Where it comes from | Why we have it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Sign-up, or Google sign-in | Creating your account, signing you in, and sending service and security messages |
| Password | Email sign-up, and Change password | Signing you in. We store it only as a cryptographic hash. It is never displayed, and no one at ONOV can read it. |
| Google account identifier and basic Google profile | Google sign-in | Authenticating you and creating your account |
| Name | Profile setup | Identifying you to other users |
| Gender | Profile setup — required | Completing your profile |
| Location | Profile setup | Completing your profile and showing you regionally relevant content. You can type it, or tap "Use current location" — see Section 3.6a. |
| Citizenship | Profile setup — required | Completing your profile |
| Date of birth | Profile setup — required | Confirming that you are 18 or over, which is our minimum age. See Section 16. |
| Profile picture and cover photo | Profile setup | Displaying your profile |
3.2 Interest and category profile information
When you join, you choose one or more of four categories: Political, Entertainment, Hobbies / Sports and Business. Each category you choose opens its own profile setup. Every one of these setups is optional and can be skipped.
| Category | What we collect if you fill it in |
|---|---|
| Political | Basic information, party name, description, and a preference such as Environment or Health Care |
| Entertainment | The same fields, with club name in place of party name |
| Hobbies / Sports | The same fields, plus My Circle |
| Business | The same fields, plus business name, educational qualification, designation, skills and website |
We use your selected categories and your preference to decide which posts appear on your home page. Section 4 explains how we treat the political and health-related parts of this in particular.
3.3 Your connections and relationships
- Connection requests you send, receive, accept and reject, and your list of connections
- Who supports you, and who you support
- Users you have blocked, so we can enforce the block and show you your block list
- Communities you create and belong to
- Connections you have removed
3.4 Content you create and how you engage
- Posts — title, body, photos, videos, category, audience setting, region, hashtags and any schedule you set
- Polls — question, description, options, media, category, region, hashtags and schedule, and the responses people give
- Events — title, description, venue name, address, start and end dates, time zone, whether tickets are available and their price, category, region, hashtag and photo
- Comments, likes and OPV (Opposite Point of View) reactions
- Favourites — posts you have saved, whether yours or someone else's
- Hidden posts, so we can keep them out of your feed
- Reports you submit about posts or users
- Support tickets you open, and anything you tell us in them
3.5 Your settings
- Which notifications you have turned on or off — comments, OPV reactions, connection requests, supporters and ONOV notices
- Any specific users whose notifications you have muted
- Your category and region feed filters
- The audience setting on each post you publish
3.6 Technical information
Very little is generated automatically by your device. What there is, is listed here in full.
| What | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| Push notification token | Required to deliver notifications to your device |
| IP address | Used transiently to limit how many requests can be made in a short period, which is how we prevent abuse and brute-force attempts. It is a throttling key, not a record of your browsing, and ordinary use of ONOV is not IP-logged. The one place an IP address is stored is our administrator audit log, which records actions taken by ONOV staff — not by members. |
| Device model and device identifiers | Not collected. Nothing in the app reads them. |
| Crash reports | Not collected. ONOV has no crash reporting service. |
| Usage and analytics events | Not collected. ONOV uses no analytics service, and no advertising identifier is collected. |
3.6a Location
ONOV can use your device's location, but only when you ask it to. During profile setup there is a "Use current location" option. If you tap it, we read your device's location once, convert it into a street address, and put that address into your profile's location field. If you do not tap it, you type your location yourself and we never read your device's location.
You control this through your device's location permission, which you can refuse or withdraw at any time in your phone's settings. Refusing it does not stop you using ONOV — you type your location instead. We do not track your location in the background, we do not build a location history, and the region tags on your posts are text you choose, not a reading from your device.
3.6b Device permissions we ask for
| Permission | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Camera | Taking a photo or recording a video to post, or setting a profile picture |
| Photo library | Choosing an existing photo or video to post |
| Location, while using the app | The optional "Use current location" step described above. We never request background or always-on location. |
| Microphone | Recording audio as part of a video you post |
| Notifications | Delivering the notifications you have turned on |
Each of these is requested only when you first use the feature that needs it, and each can be refused or withdrawn in your device settings.
3.7 What we do not collect
ONOV does not access your contacts or address book, and does not collect your browsing history outside the app. We collect no payment card, bank or other financial information, because ONOV does not process payments.
ONOV also collects no analytics, no usage tracking, no crash reports, no device model or device identifiers, and no advertising identifier. The only third-party software development kit in the app is Google Sign-In, which is there so you can sign in with a Google account if you choose to.
4.Sensitive information
This section matters more than most. ONOV is organised around interests that include politics. If you complete the Political profile setup, or post political content, you are giving us information that reveals your political opinions. If you choose a preference such as Health Care, that may reveal something about your health interests. Many privacy laws treat this kind of information as sensitive and give it extra protection.
Here is how we handle it.
- It is always your choice. Every category profile setup can be skipped. You can use ONOV without ever telling us your party, your club, or your preference.
- We ask for your consent. Where the law requires it, we rely on your explicit consent to process information that reveals political opinions or health-related interests, and we keep a record of that consent. You can withdraw it at any time by clearing those fields in your profile or deleting your account.
- We use it for one purpose only. Your category, party or club name, and preference are used to display your profile and to decide which posts appear in your home feed. We do not use them to target advertising, and we do not sell them.
- Citizenship and gender are collected as part of your basic profile. Citizenship can indicate nationality, and several US state privacy laws treat citizenship or immigration status as sensitive personal information. We collect it only to complete your profile.
- Photos and videos you upload may show people. We remove embedded metadata, including any location recorded by your camera, from photos and videos when you upload them. Where a video cannot have its metadata removed, we refuse the upload rather than store it as it arrived. Photo orientation is applied to the image itself before the metadata is discarded, so pictures stay the right way up.
Anything you publish publicly is a separate matter: if you post about your politics to an audience of "anyone can see", you are making that opinion public yourself, and Section 8 explains what that means.
5.How we collect information
- Directly from you — when you register, set up a profile, create posts, polls, events or communities, comment, react, save, report, change your settings, or open a support ticket.
- Automatically from your device — the technical information in Section 3.6, when you use the app or website.
- From Google — if you choose Google sign-in, Google gives us your Google account identifier and basic profile information so we can create and authenticate your account.
- From other users — when someone sends you a connection request, supports you, comments on your post, or reports your content.
6.Why we use your information
| Purpose | What that means in practice |
|---|---|
| Running your account | Registering you, signing you in, letting you change your password, and keeping your profile |
| Delivering your feed | Showing posts from your connections and public posts, filtered by category and region, and surfacing content related to the preference you selected |
| Connections and supporters | Sending, accepting and rejecting connection requests, and operating the support and follow relationships |
| Publishing your content | Displaying your posts, polls and events to the audience you chose, at the time you scheduled |
| Notifications | Telling you about comments, OPV reactions, connection requests, supporters and ONOV notices, according to the settings you have chosen |
| Safety and moderation | Acting on reports, enforcing blocks and hides, removing content that breaks our rules, and suspending accounts that do |
| Support | Answering your support tickets |
| Security | Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access |
| Location lookup | Converting your device location into a street address, once, when you tap "Use current location" during profile setup |
| Legal compliance | Meeting our legal obligations and responding to lawful requests |
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles. We do screen posts, polls, events, comments and profile fields automatically against a list of prohibited terms before they are published, and matching content is blocked or held for a person to look at. Beyond that screening, decisions that affect you — removing content, restricting or closing an account — are made by a person, not by an automated system.
7.Our legal bases
Where the law requires us to identify a legal basis for using your information — for example under the EU and UK GDPR — these are the bases we rely on.
| Basis | Used for |
|---|---|
| Performance of a contract | Running your account and providing the features you asked for |
| Your consent | Sensitive information such as political opinions and health-related preferences, push notifications, and any optional profile fields you choose to complete |
| Our legitimate interests | Keeping ONOV secure, preventing abuse, moderating content, and improving the service — balanced against your rights |
| Legal obligation | Responding to lawful requests and meeting record-keeping duties |
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
8.Who can see your information
Every post, poll and event you create carries an audience setting that you choose:
| Audience | Who sees it |
|---|---|
| Private | Only you |
| Connected people only | Users who have accepted a connection with you |
| Anyone can see | Any ONOV user, and anyone who can reach the content |
Please read this before posting publicly. Content set to "anyone can see" is public. Anyone can view it, screenshot it, copy it, save it and share it elsewhere. If you delete it later, we remove it from ONOV, but we cannot remove copies that other people have already made. The same is true of anything personal you choose to put inside a public post — your workplace, your address, your photograph, or your political views.
Your profile information, including your name, photo, and whichever category details you have filled in, is visible to other users subject to your profile visibility. Your comments are visible to whoever can see the post you commented on. Poll responses feed into the poll results.
Blocking is a control between users: a blocked user cannot interact with you inside ONOV, but blocking does not delete anything either of you has already posted publicly.
9.When we share information
We share personal information only in the situations below.
| Who | What for |
|---|---|
| Authenticating you, if you use Google sign-in | |
| Push notification providers — Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging | Delivering notifications to your device |
| Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Running the service and storing your uploaded media. All ONOV data is hosted in the AWS US East (Ohio) region in the United States. |
| Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) | Sending your password-reset code. This is the only email we send through a delivery provider, and the only personal information it receives is your email address and that code. ONOV sends no SMS. |
| Professional advisers | Lawyers, accountants and auditors, where they need it and are bound to keep it confidential |
| Law enforcement, regulators and courts | Where we are legally required to disclose, or where disclosure is necessary to protect someone's safety or to investigate abuse of ONOV |
| A buyer or successor | If ONOV is sold, merged or reorganised. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy. |
No analytics or crash reporting provider receives your information, because ONOV uses none. Aside from Google Sign-In and our infrastructure providers, no third party receives data from the app.
Service providers act on our instructions. They may use your information only to do the job we hired them for, not for their own purposes.
No payment processor. ONOV does not sell tickets and does not process payments, so no payment provider receives your information from us. Where an event shows a ticket price, that is information the organiser has entered; any purchase happens outside ONOV, between you and the organiser.
10.We do not sell your information
ONOV does not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, we do not disclose it to data brokers, and we do not show advertising in the app. The app contains no advertising network, no attribution software, no analytics and no advertising identifier, so there is nothing to track you with. ONOV does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and does not ask for permission to do so.
11.Where your information is stored
ONOV is operated from the United States. Your information is stored on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the AWS US East (Ohio) region, which is located in the United States. We do not replicate ONOV data to regions outside the United States.
The ONOV app is published only in the United States, so account holders are in the United States and their information stays there. The website is reachable worldwide. If you visit the website from another country and send us information — for example by emailing us — that information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different privacy laws than your own country. Where the law requires a safeguard for such a transfer, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, we put one in place.
If we begin publishing the app outside the United States, or move data to another region, we will update this section before we do.
12.How long we keep information
We keep your information for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, or when it is closed, the schedule below applies. These periods are the same ones set out on our account deletion page.
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Your account and profile | Disabled and hidden from other users immediately. Permanently deleted after a 30-day recovery window, during which signing in again restores the account exactly as it was. After 30 days it cannot be recovered. |
| Your posts, polls and events, and the photos and videos in them | Deleted with your account at the end of the 30-day window |
| Poll responses you gave | Deleted with your account at the end of the 30-day window |
| Comments you left on other people's posts | Kept, but detached from you and shown as coming from a deleted user. Removing them entirely would break conversations other people are still having. |
| Communities you created | Remain available to their members rather than closing. We may transfer or close a community whose creator has left, as described in the Terms & Conditions. |
| Backups | Purged within 90 days as backups age out |
| Support tickets | 24 months from the date the ticket is closed |
| Moderation reports and safety records | 24 months, or longer where an investigation or legal matter is open |
| Logs and diagnostic data | 90 days |
| Ban-evasion record | Where an account was terminated for breaking our rules, a hashed identifier only, kept for 24 months. It cannot be reversed into your email address, and we keep nothing else. |
Beyond the above, we keep information only where the law requires it, and only for as long as the law requires. When that period ends, we delete it.
13.Your rights and choices
Most of your rights are exercisable directly in the app, without contacting anyone.
You can delete some of your data without deleting your account. You do not have to choose between keeping your account and removing something you no longer want on ONOV. You can delete individual posts, polls and events, remove your profile picture or cover photo, clear any category profile field, remove connections, stop supporting a user, and clear your favourites — all while keeping your account. For anything you cannot remove yourself, email net-support@onov.com and tell us what you want deleted.
| What you want to do | Where to do it |
|---|---|
| See and review your information | Profile, and My Posts |
| Correct your information | Edit profile; edit posts, polls and events in My Posts |
| Delete individual content | Delete posts, polls and events in My Posts |
| Delete your account and data | Settings & Privacy → Delete Account |
| Control who sees a post | The audience setting when you create it |
| Turn notifications on or off | Settings → Notification |
| Mute notifications about one person | Notifications |
| End a relationship | Remove a connection, or stop supporting a user |
| Protect yourself from someone | Block, hide post, report post; Settings & Privacy → Block list to unblock |
| Change your password | Settings → Change Password |
| Ask us something | Help & Support → create a support ticket, or email net-support@onov.com |
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to receive a copy of your information in a portable format, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any right that is not available in the app, email net-support@onov.com. We will respond within the time the applicable law allows, and we may need to verify your identity first — usually by asking you to write from the email address on your account.
We will not treat you differently for exercising a privacy right. We will not deny you the service, charge you a different price, or give you a lower quality experience because you asked us to delete your data or told us not to sell it.
14.Deleting your account
You can delete your ONOV account at any time in Settings & Privacy → Delete Account. You do not need to ask us and you do not need to give a reason.
If you no longer have the app installed, or you cannot sign in, you can request deletion from the web at https://www.onov.com/data-deletion. We send a confirmation link to the email address on your account, and nothing is deleted until you click it.
What deletion removes, and what survives it, is set out in Section 12.
15.How we protect information
ONOV runs on Amazon Web Services in the US East (Ohio) region and relies on the access controls, network isolation and physical security AWS provides for its data centres. On top of that:
| Measure | What we do |
|---|---|
| Data in transit | Encrypted with TLS 1.2 or higher. Release builds of the app refuse unencrypted connections outright, so the app cannot be tricked into sending your data in the clear. |
| Passwords | Stored only as Argon2 hashes — never in readable form, never displayed, and not recoverable by anyone at ONOV, including us. |
| Your session on your device | Held in the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore, scoped so it can only be read on that device and only after the device is unlocked. |
| Photos and videos at rest | Encrypted with AES-256, applied to each file as it is written rather than relying on a default setting. |
| Access to production data | Limited to people who need it to do their job. Administrator actions are recorded in an audit log. |
No service can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your information and the law requires us to tell you, we will.
16.Age requirement
ONOV is for adults. You must be 18 years of age or older to create an account or use ONOV. There is no version of ONOV for children or teenagers.
ONOV is not directed at children, we do not market it to them, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete the information we hold. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, email net-support@onov.com and we will act on it.
Because our minimum age is 18, the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act does not apply to ONOV, and the lower digital-consent ages used in some countries are not relevant to us — our threshold is higher than any of them.
How we check. We ask for your date of birth when you create your account and use it to confirm you are 18 or over. We keep it as part of your profile and use it for nothing else.
Child safety. ONOV has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. We remove such content, permanently terminate the accounts responsible, and report confirmed cases to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) or the appropriate authority. Our published standards, including how to report a concern, are at www.onov.com/child-safety-standards, and Section 6.1 of our Terms & Conditions sets out the rule we enforce.
17.Cookies and similar technologies
The ONOV app uses no cookies at all. Your session is kept in your device’s secure storage — the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore — rather than in a cookie, and it can only be read on that device once it is unlocked.
The website at www.onov.com uses cookies that are necessary to run the site, such as keeping you signed in and remembering your session. We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not use them to track you across other websites. If we ever introduce analytics or any other non-essential cookie, we will ask for your consent before setting it and give you a straightforward way to refuse.
18.Regional disclosures
18.1 California
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you specific rights. In the twelve months before the date of this policy we collect the categories of personal information listed in Section 3, from the sources listed in Section 5, for the purposes listed in Section 6, and we disclose them to the recipients listed in Section 9.
| CCPA category | Do we collect it? |
|---|---|
| Identifiers — name, email, account identifier, device identifier | Yes |
| Customer records — name, contact details | Yes |
| Protected classification characteristics — gender, citizenship, age and date of birth | Yes |
| Commercial information | No. ONOV does not sell tickets or process payments, and we collect no purchase or financial information. |
| Internet or network activity | No browsing history, no analytics, no usage tracking |
| Geolocation | Yes, if you choose it. Tapping "Use current location" reads your device location once to fill in your profile address. Otherwise we hold only the location text you type. No background or continuous location. |
| Audio, electronic, visual information — photos and videos you upload | Yes |
| Professional or employment information — business name, designation, skills | Yes, if you complete the Business profile |
| Education information — educational qualification | Yes, if you complete the Business profile |
| Inferences | We use your stated categories and preference to select content for your feed |
| Sensitive personal information — citizenship or immigration status; account log-in credentials; precise geolocation where you use "Use current location" | Yes. We use it only to provide the service you asked for, and not to infer characteristics about you. |
Your California rights are to know what we collect, to access a copy, to correct it, to delete it, to opt out of sale or sharing, and to limit our use of sensitive personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months, so there is nothing to opt out of. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond the purposes permitted without a right to limit. ONOV is restricted to users 18 and over, so we do not knowingly collect, sell or share the personal information of any minor.
Exercise your California rights in the app as described in Section 13, or by emailing net-support@onov.com. An authorised agent may act for you if they provide written permission signed by you.
18.2 Other US states
Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have broadly similar rights: to confirm whether we process their information, to access and correct it, to delete it, to obtain a portable copy, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, and profiling with legal effects. ONOV does not carry out targeted advertising, does not sell personal information, and does not profile users in a way that produces legal effects.
Several of these laws require your consent before we process sensitive data, including citizenship or immigration status. We ask for that consent as described in Section 4. If we deny a rights request, you may appeal by replying to our decision, and we will respond within the period the law allows.
18.3 New York
ONOV LLC is a New York company and maintains reasonable safeguards for private information as required by the New York SHIELD Act.
18.4 European Union and United Kingdom
The ONOV app is not published in the European Union or the United Kingdom, so we do not offer the service to people there. The website, however, is reachable worldwide.
If you are in the EU or UK and we hold personal information about you — for example because you contacted us through the website — you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability and withdrawal of consent, and the right not to be subject to solely automated decision-making with legal effects. The legal bases we rely on are in Section 7, transfers are covered in Section 11, and you may complain to your national supervisory authority or, in the UK, to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Email net-support@onov.com to exercise any of these rights.
If we begin publishing the ONOV app in the EU or UK, we will appoint a representative under Article 27 where one is required and update this policy before launch.
18.5 India
The ONOV app is not published in India. If you are in India and contact us through the website, we handle your information in line with this policy, and you can reach us at net-support@onov.com with any question or grievance. If we begin publishing the app in India, we will update this policy to set out our obligations under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 — including notice, consent, grievance redressal and the right to nominate — before we do so.
19.Making a complaint
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first: open a support ticket in Help & Support or email net-support@onov.com. We would rather fix it than have you go elsewhere.
Disputes about this policy, including privacy disputes, are covered by the arbitration and class action waiver in Section 19 of our Terms & Conditions, unless you opted out of arbitration within 30 days of accepting those terms. That does not stop you complaining to a regulator, which you can do at any time regardless.
You can also complain to a regulator. In the EU that is your national data protection authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office; in California, the California Privacy Protection Agency or the Attorney General; and in India, the Data Protection Board.
20.Changes to this policy
We update this policy when ONOV changes or when the law does. The effective date at the top always tells you which version is current.
If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you before it takes effect — through an ONOV notice in the app, by email, or both — and where the law requires your consent, we will ask for it rather than assume it. Continuing to use ONOV after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
